Starts moves to take constituents out of COVID-19 imposed poverty 

No fewer than 100 people from Obokun State Constituency of the State of Osun benefited from the first phase of empowerment programme organised by Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi IREKANDU. 

The beneficiaries included farmers, widows, senior citizens, artisans, orphans, people living…” 

Speaking with Nationnewslead reporter, Hon. Irekandu said he has a great passion in the growth and development of our teeming youths and women. Youths and women who out of resiliency and strong determination have continuously contributed to the economy of our great nation through trade and technical works are no doubts genuine movers of our society. 

The Honourable member said he have a strong belief that if we all come together as a force to tackle poverty with a vision of enriching lives through supports, our society will become better.

Hon. Irekandu disclosed that during his years as a child even as an undergraduate in the prestigious Federal University of Technology, Akure, he have always had great compassion and unwavering determination to end poverty because he have seen, felt and experienced what it takes to be wanting or not having enough. With the recent loss of jobs and widening of the colony of unemployed, he greatly believe that setting up of people to involve in technical works and release of grants to small scale businesses will surely reduce the poverty index of every society he said. 

Some of the materials distributed were, Aluminum Cutting Machines, Grinding Machines, Sewing Machines, Hair Dryers, Generators, Farming Chemicals, Farming Equipments, as well as cash gifts and cloths to widows and elderly women, among others.
Speaking at the event, Hon Irekandu said the empowerment programme was in fulfilment of his campaign promises to his constituents and also to show them love by assisting them during this COVID-19 period. 

Irekandu further explained that the initiated programmes and policies aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the people. 

As the deadly virus, COVID-19 continues to wreck the economy and making majority of the population more vulnerable, I have forwarded my suggestions to resuscitate the economy to appropriate quarters and also advised government at all levels to invest in the people especially the young ones to reduce criminality.

Irekandu in his practical contributions to the resuscitation of economy and uplifting of his people from extreme poverty. 

He said the distribution of the materials was part of his gesture to give back to the society and empower his constituents especially in this period of Covid-19.

“This distribution is as a result of baseline studies of the need of the people in his constituency, materials are not just being distributed, they were chosen after due consultation. 

While reiterating the commitment of the present administration in the state towards the general wellbeing of the people, he pledged his continuous support to the people, as he urged other public office holders to follow suit.

He then assured those that were yet to benefit from the gesture not to be discouraged, saying that he would soon roll out similar empowerment programmes for them.
