Oyetola to gospel musicians; Use your calling to correct moral decadence in the society.

Governor State of Osun Mr Gboyega Oyetola has enjoined the gospel musicians in Nigeria to be an advocate of a better society through their gospel music.

According to the Governor, the gospel musicians should have it as a duty to separate their genre of music from those of their worldly counterparts that are riddled with vulgarism, lawlessness, indecent dressing and drug abuse.

He said this would reduce the moral decadence and the prevailing corruption in the society.

Governor Oyetola gave the charge on Wednesday at the opening session of the National General Executives' Retreat of the Gospel Musicians Association of Nigeria (GOMAN) held at the Government House Chapel Osogbo.

Mr Oyetola who was represented by his Deputy Mr Benedict Alabi described gospel music as a potent weapon for propagating the gospel of Christ and for reforming a shattering and morally ailing world.

"As models, gospel musicians must adhere to the requirements of their calling in character, content and strategy. You must lead the way by cleansing the rot in the society and not allowing the society to pull you into the prevailing decadence and corruption.

"In a world replete with worldly messages and fake messengers, there is a need for gospel musicians to come together to regulate and control their messages and ensure that the right people are in involved and that the right messages are communicated to the world".

The Governor who described the theme of the retreat, "make your election sure", as very apt and timely called on gospel musicians to see themselves as mirror of Christ by being ardent models  in a decadent society.

He stated that as Gospel Musicians, they must be moderate in their lifestyle to reflect the teachings of Christ while their dress code and messages must promote morality, ethical behavior and holiness.

Mr Oyetola also stressed the need for the members of the association to work harder and ensure that their gospel music have transformative and evangelism contents and potential that will attract more candidates into the kingdom of God and put the society on a right path.

"The ubiquitous presence and powers of appeal commanded by gospel music give it stronger powers and influence over sermons. Gospel musicians must recognise this advantage.

"There is no doubt that getting your Association to act according to the Biblical code is the way to achieve spiritual prowess, morality and general societal cleansing", Governor Oyetola added.
